Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green recently appeared on the podcast of Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley, and the four-time NBA champion shared why he punched Jordan Poole in the face last year.

Green actually said that Poole said something to him that men don’t say to each other and he responded by punching him.

“I don’t just hit people. Dialogue happens over time and you don’t usually get triggered by something that quickly,” Green said. “We know things you don’t say among men. We know things you have to insist on.”

Green’s punch was caught on video and leaked. The Warriors won 44 games last season, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Draymond Green, Jordan Poole & Golden State Warriors Updates

Golden State traded Poole to the Washington Wizards this summer in the Chris Paul trade. Meanwhile, Green signed a new four-year deal with the Warriors in free agency.

Poole signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Warriors in October 2022. The extension will start next season. The Michigan product averaged a career-high 20.4 points for the Dubs last season as they shot 43.0% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc, and 87.0% from the free throw line.

However, Poole was unable to carry his regular season success into the 2023 postseason. In 13 playoff games against the Sacramento Kings and Lakers, Poole averaged 10.3 points while batting an inefficient 34.1% overall and 25.4% shot from 3-point range.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Draymond Green, Jordan Poole & Golden State Warriors Updates

According to Tim Kawakami of The Athleticthe Warriors thought Poole was an “odd” and “inefficient” member of their roster, meaning they traded him.

“What is clear to me after a few days of looking around is that this all started when the Warriors decided that Poole was an odd and inefficient member of their roster,” Kawakami wrote. “That was the tricky problem. The Warriors wanted out of the $123 million deal they gave Poole just eight months prior, as his play last season fell short of that value, especially given their extreme luxury tax burden.

Poole and Kyle Kuzma are now the Wizards’ best players, while the Warriors are likely to start next season with Paul, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Green.
