An NBA writer proposes that the Golden State Warriors trade Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers for Paul George in a blockbuster deal.

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report suggested the following trade between the Clippers and Warriors. The proposal cannot happen until September and would send George to the Warriors in exchange for Chris Paul, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and top-10 protected first-round picks in 2026 and 2028.

The Warriors purchased Paul from the Washington Wizards in the Jordan Poole trade. The Clippers wanted to acquire CP3 from the Wizards, but the Warriors got ahead of them.

“While CP3 should curb the revenue problems that have plagued Golden State, it’s up for debate whether he’s in the mood for the closing lineup,” Hughes wrote. “There would be no such uncertainty with George, who would fit alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green in what would easily be the league’s most dangerous five-man unit.”

George has been in trade rumors for the first time this offseason since joining the Clippers in the summer of 2019. The New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers were interested in acquiring George, but things changed after New York and Portland learned that George was looking for a massive expansion. The swingman is eligible for a contract extension worth approximately $220 million over four years.

George has only played in 87 of a possible 164 games over the past two seasons. The eight-time All-Star averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Clippers last season, but did not play in the 2023 playoffs due to a knee injury.

George signed a four-year, up to $176 million contract extension with the Clippers in December 2020. The six-time All-NBA forward will earn $45.6 million next season. He has a $48.8 million player option for the 2024-2025 season.

Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists for the Phoenix Suns last season. The guard, he said, was “extremely eager” during his first few encounters with the Warriors ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.

However, Paul and Stephen Curry aren’t really a good fit as they’re both petite and play the same position, which is why Hughes thinks a trade between George and Paul could work.
