The Philadelphia 76ers fell short again in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, losing for the third straight season in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which has led the organization to make some major changes.
Head coach Doc Rivers was fired and replaced by Nick Nurse, who was fired by the Toronto Raptors earlier this offseason. There is also a chance that reigning MVP Joel Embiid has some new running mates as James Harden has again expressed his desire to be traded.
Even if the 76ers and Harden can work through the issues they have, this is a team that could use a little shake-up in their rotation. Something isn’t right that leads to them constantly getting knocked out earlier than they think they should be in the postseason.
The coaching change entails some adjustments, but an upgrade of the roster must also take place. A suggested move is to increase their wing rotation behind Tobias Harris and PJ Tucker. A player they could target, in the opinion of Adam Aaronson of The Rights to Ricky Sanchezis Kelly Oubre Jr.
“A more traditional wing option would be Kelly Oubre Jr., whose main calling card right now is his large-scale three-point shooting,” Aaronson wrote. “Oubre Jr. has the quick trigger, frame and athleticism of a prototypical 3-and-D wing.”

It is somewhat surprising that Oubre is still available in free agency, as he comes out of his career with 20.3 points per game season. But there are some concerns about his overall profile. While scoring 20+ points per game in any capacity is nothing to sneeze at, there are some concerns.
Oubre was an inefficient shooter and he was inconsistent as a 3 point shooter. He is a 33 percent career shooter from outside the arc with a career high of 35.2 percent during the 2019–20 season with the Phoenix Suns.

Could playing with better talent improve his efficiency? It’s certainly possible, as there wouldn’t be nearly as much focus on playing for the 76ers as there would be on playing for the Hornets. According to Aaronson, Oubre’s profile is one that 76ers general manager Daryl Morey would normally be drawn to.
“I bring up Oubre Jr. because he has the kind of physical tools and shot chart that generally intrigue teams these days, especially Morey, who has striven for that kind of archetype over and over throughout his career, and he’s someone who in at least at one point was good enough to warrant more than a minimum contract,” Aaronson wrote. someone whose actual shooting percentage was well below the league average.”

As the NBA offseason progresses, Oubre to the City of Brotherly Love is something to definitely keep an eye on. Free agent money has quickly been swallowed up in the league and Oubre may have to settle for a veteran minimum for the upcoming season.
If that’s the route he needs to take, the 76ers are an excellent landing spot for him. There’s no better way for a player to restore their value than by playing for a contending team and potentially helping them win matches.
