Virat Kohli reveals his plans to meet former RCB teammate Chris Gayle on the West Indies tour

The Indian cricket team currently plays in a multi-format West Indies tour begins with a two-match Test series from July 12. Ahead of the busy schedule and the first Test, India’s star batsman Virat Kohli spoke candidly about his plans to meet his close friend and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Chris Gayle.

It is worth noting that Virat and Gayle have played together in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for almost a decade and have a great bond both on and off the field. The duo have great respect for each other and Kohli has often been seen visiting Gayle’s residence in Jamaica when he arrives in the West Indies.

During an interaction with Star Sports on “Follow The Blues,” Kohli revealed if he would meet Gayle. The 34-year-old cricketer stated that Gayle has always invited the Indian team to visit his house when they are in Jamaica. The former RCB skipper went on to fondly recount their previous visit to Gayle’s residence, highlighting the enjoyable moments they had and praising the former Caribbean star for his down-to-earth and humble nature. Kohli also stated that meeting Gayle on their tour is a clear plan when the Universum boss is not busy.

“Well Chris, I hung out with him for so many years. I’m sure when we are in Jamaica we will definitely meet Chris. He always invites the team to have a good time and just relax. Kohli said.

“So I’m sure he’ll do the same thing again when he’s in town. Everyone loves him. We also went to his house last time, we had a great time and he is such a humble man. Absolutely, if he’s free and he’s in town, we’ll definitely catch up with him,” he added.

When asked about his favorite memory of playing in the West Indies, Kohli nostalgically shared his experience in 2016 Antigua, where he recorded his first-ever double hundred in Test cricket with legendary Sir Vivian Richards witnessing Kohli’s remarkable performance from the stands. The 34-year-old described the achievement as a hugely special moment in his career and cherished the opportunity to meet Richards later in the evening, revealing that he personally congratulated him.

“My favorite memory is of course Antigua. I got my first ever double hundred in Test Cricket in Antigua for Sir Vivian Richards. That was a very, very special moment for me and then he also met me in the evening and congratulated me. It can’t get any better than that’ Kohli recalled.
