As the NBA Draft approaches, there’s been a lot of talk about some of the top picks. In recent weeks, there have been reports of multiple lottery pick teams looking for trades.
The Toronto Raptors are also in the lottery, but reports indicate they want to go up, not down. According to Action Network’s Matt Moorethe Raptors have set their sights on acquiring number 2 from the Charlotte Hornets.
The only other team that seems genuinely interested in pursuing the No. 2 pick is Toronto, but I expect that list of teams to expand quickly this week; again, many teams have an interest in Scoot Henderson as a potential cornerstone of the franchise.
After failing to make the playoffs this season, Toronto appears to be preparing for a rebuild. The first domino was parting ways with longtime head coach Nick Nurse and replacing him with a first time coach in Darko Rajakovic. It’s also worth pointing out that Fred VanVleet turned down his player option for next season and will enter free agency this summer.

Outside of Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson is the second biggest name in the 2023 draft class. Despite a mediocre season in the G-League this year, many still believe the explosive guard has the potential to become a star in the league.
If the Raptors decide to embrace a youth movement, Henderson could be the foundation for the franchise’s next phase. In addition to Scottie Barnes, the franchise will have a few intriguing young talents to build around.

While Toronto may have their sights set on the second pick, they could have a lot of competition ahead of Thursday. As of now, the New Orleans Pelicans are another team high on Henderson. With a few All-Stars to trade in, Toronto may have to get creative with a bid if they want to be on the clock with the second pick on draft night.
